Enclosed is another excerpt from this month’s “Addiction Today” Magazine.  This is the EATA (European Association for Treatment of Addiction) page and it highlights the deep concern both in England and also Scotland about lack of statutory funding for residential treatment.  Castle Craig is very fortunate in that it casts its net very widely and attracts patients from abroad as well as home.  We are therefore cushioned somewhat from the lack of NHS and Local Authority referrals which are hitting other treatment centres so badly.  It is, as I am quoted as saying, a “crying shame” that patients desperately needing treatment are not able to get it.  Very sadly these patients will end up costing the NHS enormous amounts of money because of all the alcohol and drug related sickness that will continue to develop and get worse without this important care.
